The maxi dress is “in” right now. I get it. It’s trendy. I’ve got a few of my own. I just think we need to draw the line at some point. These friggin’ dresses are everywhere!
5 Reasons to Stop Wearing Maxi Dresses NOW
#1 Everybody knows what you’re doing…
… as in hiding. The maxi dress is one step evolved from the muumuu. The thigh coverage… the floral patterns… Did you really think you were fooling somebody?
#2 Everybody’s rocking it!
Sure, since we’ve been inundated by them this season, you probably won’t run into somebody else at the party wearing your same exact dress. But still… it’s just too many chicks out on the street jocking your same exact style. Don’t you want to be fashionably unique?
#3 Designers are getting over big time!
It takes work to design a beautiful dress. I’m not hating on the skill. But I have to point out that it’s not exactly innovative to regurgitate the same pattern again and again and again just because you know people are buying it.
#4 Where are my sleeves?
Most of the maxi dresses I see out there are sleeveless. Some are even strapless. Of course there are plenty of plus size women who don’t mind bearing their upper flesh and they deserve clothes that represent them. But what about the rest of us? The majority of the time, we end up layering with a shrug or a scarf. (Refer to #1)
Some people might think including sleeves is too much damn fabric. Well I say, “Figure it out!” Isn’t it the designer’s job to find a way to make me look and feel beautiful, chic, and comfortable? (Refer to #3)
#5 What are you gonna do when the fad is over?
Make curtains? I think not.
